About Diamond Jubilee

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ. My name is Jacob Kurian Kathanasseril. I am a member of the St. Joseph’s Knanaya Church in Long Island and the General Convener of the 2019 Diamond Jubilee Convention of our Knanaya Jacobite Community in North America. This year’s convention will be held on July 18th to July 21st at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel in Iselin, New Jersey. The theme of our convention is “Honoring our Past and Creating our Future”, and I encourage all my brethren in North America, Canada and world-wide to join our fellow Knanayites in unity with each other and our Savior Jesus Christ.

We honor our past by continuing a tradition started many years ago by the first Knanaya Settlers of North America with the support of our Late Lamented Chief Metropolitan, Koberneethi Hakkimo, Mor Clemis Abraham. As a Knanaya youth at Yonkers church, New Jersey church and later at Long Island church, I was fortunate enough to attend past Knanaya Conventions across the United States. Along with many of you, I still remember vividly receiving the blessings of His Eminence Mor Clemis Abraham, of blessed memory, as he celebrated Holy Qurbana during our Convention. Along with His Eminence Mor Silvanos Ayub, I have also been fortunate to stand side by side with our Chief Metropolitan, His Eminence Mor Severios Kuriakose, His Grace Mor Gregorios Kuriakose and His Grace Mor Ivanios Kuriakose at our recent conventions. I agreed to be the General Convener at the culmination of our Philadelphia Convention, because of the wonderful memories that I have collected over the years.

Our convention team has been working diligently since late last year to coordinate this national event for our community. We have contacted a number of hotels and convention centers across the United States and visited numerous locations. By the Grace of God, we were able to secure a convenient location for our gathering in Iselin, New Jersey, the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel. This hotel will provide us with elegant accommodations, modern facilities, and all the amenities and comforts of home.

So, for a few days this summer, our Knanaya Community will come together at our Tharavadu, the Mor Clemis Abraham Nagar, our home away from home from July 18th to 21st. During those blessed days, we will participate in numerous activities for both adults and youth including seminars, stage shows, musical competitions, and sports and games. Our Knanaya conventions have historically been an opportunity for our children to meet and mingle with their fellow youth and to build friendships that last a lifetime. We are also looking for volunteers to help coordinate the numerous activities and events that will be held at convention, so please come share your time and talents with your fellow brother and sisters.

In the Bible, our Savior Jesus Christ reminds us to be the Salt of the Earth and a Light for the World. Let your artistic, musical and creative light shine this summer for the World to see, as we Knanayites are truly the Salt of the Earth. We assemble as a statement of faith in the Eternal Spirit of our God and our Savior Jesus Christ. With your participation and support, we hope to make this Diamond Jubilee Convention another event that builds relationships among all the members of our community. I urge you to contact either the registration coordinators at your church, our national registration coordinator, Mr. Aniyan Panavelil or myself for more information and to obtain the registration forms as soon as possible. As we are all bound to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, let us strengthen and renew our bonds to each other through the Knanaya Jacobite Convention of North America.

Thank you and may God Bless us all.
